SAFF Women’s Championship: Nepal enters final defeating India 4-2 in a penalty shootout

Nepal has entered the final of SAFF Women Championship-2024 by defeating India 4-2 in a penalty shootout on Sunday.

The match went to penalties after both teams scored one goal each in regulation time. Shortly after the game resumed following a delay of over an hour, Sabitra Bhandari scored to bring Nepal level at 1-1.

Earlier, India took the lead in the 70th minute, but Nepal quickly restarted play and scored. However, the referee disallowed Nepal’s goal, sparking protests that led to an hour-long disruption.

Bagmati Province reports 60 deaths in road accidents in three months

A total of 60 people have died, and 1,030 others were injured in road accidents across 10 districts of Bagmati Province in the first three months of the current financial year 2023/24.

According to the Nepal Police Highway Safety and Traffic Management Office in Chitwan, there were 397 recorded road accidents during this period.

During these months, traffic police collected Rs 27.9 million in revenue from traffic rule violators.

Gold prices reaches new record high

The price of gold in the Nepalese market has hit a new all-time high.

The Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Traders announced today that the price of gold has increased by rs 1,400 rupees, reaching Rs 167,400 per tola.

This marks the highest price ever recorded.

Floral harvest: A bustling scene ahead of Tihar

With the arrival of Tihar, the second major festival of Hindus, farmers in Suryavinayak Municipality-7, Gundu, are busy in picking Makhamali (Gomphrena globosa) flowers and making garlands.

Gundu and Tathali in Bhaktapur are renowned for their Makhamali flowers, which are now in full bloom.

In addition to Makhamali flowers, some farmers are cultivating marigold flowers.

Threats won’t help Maoists regain power: PM Oli

Prime Minister KP Oli has urged Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda to refrain from issuing threats to the government.

Speaking at the Non-Resident Nepali Association event in Kathmandu on Sunday, he warned that threats would not aid Prachanda in regaining power.

PM Oli asserted that while he does not resort to weapons, he is capable of persuading people to lay down their arms.

NEA cuts power to industries while PM and Energy Minister remain spectators

On Thursday night, the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) disconnected power lines to 34 industries due to their failure to pay dedicated and trunk line fees by the deadline.

This action is not unprecedented; the Authority has previously cut lines to industries over overdue premium tariffs.

Despite ongoing reminders for payment, many industries were granted extensions after legal proceedings, responding to requests from industrialists.

PM Oli dismisses criticism, says government on track

Amid increasing criticism and protest to the government’s performance, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli responded with sharp remarks.

Speaking at an event organized by the Nepal National Ex-Army and Police Organization in Kathmandu on Sunday, Oli referred to his critics as “hired voices.”

He further remarked, “Those who are raising their voices to oppose me are hired to do so. The government is working at its own pace, and criticism won’t make a difference.”
