Energy and Industry Ministers requested to re-connect power supplies



KATHMANDU: Industrialists and businessmen have expressed their grief over the cutting of power supplies in industries by the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) and requested the Minister for Energy and the Minister for Industry to immediately re-connect the cut lines.

Industrialists today jointly met Energy Minister Deepak Khadka and Industry Minister Damodar Bhandari and demanded for immediate re-connection of the power supplies.

During the meeting, Pashupati Murarka, the former president of FNCC, said that the Electricity Authority has repeatedly cut the power lines and unfairly treated the industrialists.

He mentioned that they will pay the fee if the authority provides proof of electricity tariff.

Energy Minister Khadka pledged to discuss the matter of power cuts in the industry with the Ministry of Energy, Electricity Regulatory Commission, NEA to resolve the issues.

He said that the authority should not cut the line saying that the industrialist should pay the amount for the power used.

Minister Bhandari said that since the Lal Commission has already studied about ‘dedicated’ and ‘trunkline’ electricity, the Commission’s report should be implemented and move forward accordingly.

He emphasized that when the country’s economy is in recession, more problems may arise if the industry is sector is badly treated.

The meeting was attended by Ministry of Energy Secretary Suresh Acharya and Sarita Dawadi, Ministry’s senior energy expert Prabal Adhikari and high-ranking officials of the Ministry and industrialists.
