Rabi Lamichhane on Tundikhel Incident: People’s intervention has begun, political parties must reform

Rabi Lamichhane, Chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has asserted that political parties have no choice but to reform. Speaking at the House of Representatives (HoR) meeting on Tuesday, Lamichhane emphasized that the public has started to voice their dissatisfaction and anger towards political parties and leaders, highlighting the urgent need for reform. “The Tundikhel incident on Monday demonstrates that the people have begun to intervene,” said Lamichhane. He also noted that the government, which holds a two-thirds majority, has no option but to perform effectively and deliver results.

HoR uanimously endorses ‘Securities (First Amendment) Bill, 2081’

The House of Representatives (HoR) unanimously endorsed a proposal today seeking consideration of the ‘Securities (First Amendment) Bill, 2081’. Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Poudel presented the proposal during the HoR meeting, emphasizing the necessity of the amendment. He explained that the bill aims to implement new practices in the stock market that align with the country’s current context. “Given our experiences in the stock market, this amendment is essential to ensure stable growth and effective regulatory arrangements,” Minister Poudel stated.

Government plans to allow Ncell to renew license in installments

The government is preparing to permit Ncell to renew its telecommunication service operation license in installments. This decision is expected to be finalized at an upcoming Cabinet meeting. According to sources, Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, will present a proposal at the Cabinet to allow Ncell to renew its license in installments. Ncell’s current service operation license is set to expire on August 31 under the Telecommunication Act of 2053 and the Telecommunication Regulations of 2054.

SC rejects interim order to annul 30-year service term in APF; 16 officials, including DIG, set to retire

The Supreme Court (SC) has refused to issue an interim order to annul the 30-year service term in the Armed Police Force (APF). The decision was made during a hearing on Tuesday regarding a writ petition filed by 12 APF officials, including Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Durga Prasad Bhattarai. A bench led by Judge Sharanga Subedi denied the request for an interim order but issued a show cause order against the defendants. The officials, who are scheduled to retire on Bhadra 16 due to the service term limitations, had filed the petition demanding the annulment of the 30-year service term. With the court’s refusal to issue an interim order, these officials are now set to retire.

Parliamentary hearings for 17 proposed ambassadors to begin on August 30

The parliamentary hearings for 17 proposed ambassadors to various countries are scheduled to begin on August 30. A committee meeting held on Tuesday finalized the schedule for the hearings. According to Committee Chairman Ishwori Devi Neupane, the first day will be dedicated to discussions with complainants. Following that, the hearings for the proposed ambassadors will commence.

Omani Foreign Minister pays courtesy call on PM Oli

Oman’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Albusaidi, paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli today. The meeting, held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar, focused on matters of bilateral interest and mutual concerns, according to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat. Prime Minister’s Chief Advisor Bishnu Prasad Rimal and Foreign Secretary Sewa Lamsal were also present at the meeting.

Pandey elected Senior Vice Chair of Unified Socialist unopposed

Rajendra Prasad Pandey has been elected as the Senior Vice Chairman of the CPN (Unified Socialist) unopposed. It was decided to hold an election after the Central Committee meeting, which began this Sunday, failed to reach a consensus on the selection of office bearers. Consequently, the party decided to proceed with an election for 18 office bearers and 105 politburo members, scheduled for Tuesday.

RSP expels Dr. Mukul Dhakal from party

Dr. Mukul Dhakal, former General Secretary and central member of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has been expelled even from ordinary membership. The expulsion was announced today following a Central Committee meeting held at the party’s central office in Banasthali. Dhakal’s expulsion came after he failed to provide satisfactory explanations in response to inquiries made on June 26 and August 22. Dhakal’s expulsion follows a review report he prepared after the by-elections in Ilam last Baisakh. In his report, Dhakal criticized the work style and management process of party Chairman Rabi Lamichhane.

Police seize 34 tolas of gold and 10.5 kg of silver in Banke

Police have seized a substantial quantity of gold and silver in Banke. Banke police arrested several individuals in possession of 34 tolas of gold and 10.5 kg of silver on Monday afternoon. Police Chief SP Tul Bahadur Karki said that the arrested individuals will be made public today following a press conference. Police said that the arrests were made based on a tip-off.

Gold price remains unchanged today

Gold prices remained unchanged in the Nepali market on Tuesday. According to the Nepal Gold and Silver Business Federation, the price of gold was Rs 152,300 per tola on Monday and held steady at the same rate on Tuesday. The Federation also reported an increase in the price of silver. Silver was traded at Rs 1,850 per tola.

Spanish tourists go missing while hiking in Annapurna Circuit

Two Spanish tourists, Erik Kasanovas and Molass Missy, have gone missing while hiking in the Ghorepani area, a popular destination on the Annapurna Circuit in Nepal. Bharatman Gurung, Spokesperson for the Annapurna Rural Municipality, stated that the two tourists disappeared while traveling from Tikhedhunga in Kaski to Ghorepani. On Sunday evening, two abandoned bags belonging to the tourists were found near the Bhurungdi River bridge. Despite an extensive search on Monday, their whereabouts remain unknown. Authorities suspect that the tourists may have been swept away by the river. Gurung stated that the tourists had registered their trek to Ghorepani at the ECAP check post in Birethanti.
