Nepal and Oman discuss strengthening bilateral relations in ministerial meeting



KATHMANDU: Nepal’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba, and her visiting Omani counterpart, Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Albusaidi, held a bilateral meeting today.

The meeting covered a range of topics including air connectivity, labor issues, investment, tourism, and diplomatic exchanges.

Both ministers emphasized the importance of enhancing bilateral relations between the two countries.

Foreign Secretary Sewa Lamsal, Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Ganesh Prasad Pandey, Nepal’s Ambassador to Oman Dornath Aryal, and officials from the Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs were also present.

Dr. Rana urged Oman to consider operating flights to Nepal’s international airports in Bhairahawa and Pokhara, following the temporary suspension of flights to Bhairahawa.

She highlighted the government’s commitment to improving facilities for international airlines. In response, Sayyid Badr indicated that the Omani government would review the request.

The discussion also included the rights and welfare of Nepali workers, with Nepal proposing Oman as a promising labor destination due to its favorable labor laws.

The Omani side acknowledged the diligence of Nepali workers and agreed to consider hiring additional workers as needed. Both countries agreed to move forward with a labor agreement on this issue.

Dr. Rana highlighted Nepal’s potential for tourism, citing its natural beauty, Himalayan peaks, including Sagarmatha, and World Heritage Sites.

She encouraged Omani investors to explore opportunities in Nepal’s tourism sector and other areas.

After the meeting, Dr. Rana informed journalists that discussions had also covered potential agreements in labor, health, tourism, and foreign affairs.

She noted that Oman is interested in investing in priority sectors within Nepal’s tourism industry.

Overall, the meeting aimed at deepening the bilateral relationship and exploring new avenues for cooperation between Nepal and Oman.
