Prachanda urges Cabinet decision to collect Rs 22 billion in NEA dues

KATHMANDU: Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda,’ Chairman of CPN (Maoist Center), has called on the Cabinet to make a decision regarding the collection of Rs 22 billion in outstanding dues owed to the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).

Addressing a parliamentary session on Tuesday, Dahal challenged Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to take action through the Cabinet rather than merely addressing the issue on social media.

“The Prime Minister has asked on Facebook why Rs 21.88 billion in dues have not been collected for nine years. If the Prime Minister had good intentions, he should have asked this question through the Cabinet,” he said, adding, “In fact, it is not a question to be asked but an answer that should be given by Prime Minister Oli himself.

Dahal further accused the government of preventing the NEA from operating independently and exacerbating the ongoing dispute.

He also expressed concern over the government seeking clarification from NEA Managing Director Kulman Ghising for cutting power supply to industries with unpaid dues.
