Fruit gardens expanded over 2,000 ropanis in Tanahu district

KATHMANDU: In the past year, fruit gardens have been expanded across 2,000 ropanis of land in Tanahu district.

This initiative has benefitted three farmer groups, 28 agricultural firms, and one cooperative through the park establishment and expansion program led by the Agriculture Knowledge Centre in Tanahu.

Gopal Sharma Lamichhane, Chief of the Centre, stated that orange farming was conducted on 2,036 ropanis of land under this program.

Out of the Rs 4.5 million allocated for the scheme in the last fiscal year 2023/24, over Rs 3 million was utilized.

The Centre provided saplings of various fruits, including litchi, papaya, jackfruit, guava, and avocado, among others, to encourage farmers toward fruit farming and self-reliance.

Additionally, the Centre supplied manure, farming equipment, and tools, such as water pumping motors and digital weighing machines.

Under the orchard management and strengthening scheme, the Centre distributed Rs 3.8 million to the farmers, benefiting 153 households, including four farmer groups and 53 agricultural firms.

As part of the program, oranges were planted across 832 ropanis of land.
