BUTWAL: Deepesh Pun, son of former Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun, who was released on bail in the Supreme Savings and Credit Cooperative embezzlement case, has been interrogated by the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB).

Although on April 19, the District Court of Rupandehi ordered the release of Pun along with six others on bail, Deepesh remained in custody for seven days, until recently.

Even though the single bench of Justice Dr. Deepak Upadhyay had granted bail to those involved in the cooperative case, Deepesh was apprehensive about being arrested by the CIB and stayed in jail without posting bail.

Following the court’s decision, newly apprehended individuals have been released on bail: Navin Akshami has been fined 1 million, Durga Chapagain, the branch manager of Bhairahawa, has been fined 1.8 million, Neeta Thapamagar has been fined 200,000, Deepak Neupane has been fined 445,000, and Roshni Gurung has been fined 200,000.

After being acquitted in the gold smuggling case on March 15, Deepesh Pun was brought to Kathmandu and then taken to Butwal for investigation into the cooperative fraud case.

Even though Deepesh was released on bail after being detained in the cooperative case, he has been subjected to further investigation in the gold case.

On April 15, the District Government Attorney’s Office, Butwal, had prepared investigation reports on 28 people, including GB Rai, who were made defendants in the cooperative case.

Subsequently, after reviewing the investigation report along with the opinions, the registration of prosecution was filed. Following the debate, the court ordered custody for seven people, with only one person being held in detention while others were released on bail.

According to the investigation, a total of NPR 1.31 billion was embezzled from the common people’s savings. Among the cooperative’s officials and employees, including Rai, Pun, Gurung, there was an irregularity of Rs 861.23 million. The cooperative has 19,391 members.
