Weeklong detention for protesters of loan sharking and microfinance exploitation



KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu District Court has approved the detention of victims of loan sharking and microfinance exploitation for a week, following their protest within the premises of the Federal Parliament building in New Baneshwor.

Protesting against usury and financial exploitation, the demonstrators breached the restricted area in Kathmandu and entered the Parliament building.

They expressed their grievances through protest slogans and by lying on the ground.

Security forces intervened once they were inside the Parliament building, arresting 49 individuals.

The police are now conducting an investigation into the incident and preparing to file cases against the detainees.
