Minister Sharma encourages private sector to develop IT sector plans and projects

KATHMANDU: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Rekha Sharma, has urged the private sector to prepare comprehensive plans and projects in the IT sector ahead of the upcoming Investment Summit.

During a meeting with representatives from the Confederation of Nepalese Industries’ IT Council, the American Chambers of Commerce in Nepal, and the Nepal Association for Software and IT Services Companies, Minister Sharma emphasized the importance of showcasing investment opportunities and initiatives in the IT sector during the Investment Summit.

Highlighting the necessity of establishing a Project Bank specifically for the IT sector, Minister Sharma solicited suggestions from the private sector on enhancing government policies, programs, and budgets related to IT.

Despite the government’s commitment to digital transformation through the Digital Nepal Framework, Minister Sharma noted a lack of common vision towards the IT sector, hindering investment opportunities.

She stressed the importance of fostering mutual understanding and collaboration between the government and private sector, as well as at the grassroots level, to create a conducive environment for digital investment.

Minister Sharma also disclosed plans for forthcoming legislation on IT and cybersecurity, signaling the government’s commitment to strengthening the digital infrastructure.

Representatives from the private sector echoed Minister Sharma’s sentiments, underscoring the immense potential of Nepal’s IT sector and advocating for supportive legal frameworks and infrastructure development.

They emphasized the need for cohesive government policies and support for IT startups, pledging their cooperation to advance the country’s IT sector and contribute to national prosperity through digital transformation.
