Investigation of Rs 700 million tape scandal underway: CIAA Chief Rai

The Chief Commissioner of the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), Prem Kumar Rai, has affirmed that the investigation into the Rs 700 million scandal remains ongoing. Addressing a parliamentary committee meeting, Chief Commissioner Rai stated that the investigation into allegations of negotiating a Rs 700 million commission during the procurement of a security printing press is currently underway.

Final rites held for legendary singer and composer Bhaktaraj Acharya

The final rites of the revered senior singer and composer Bhaktaraj Acharya were solemnly performed at Aryaghat in Pashupati. Earlier, Acharya’s mortal remains were placed at the Narya Pratisthan of Music and Drama in Naxal for the final rituals. A multitude of individuals, including politicians, singers, musicians, artists, and the general public, gathered to bid their last farewells to Acharya.

Former Century Bank executives, Neupane and Gautam, arrested in connection with alleged loan scam

Ten individuals, including Manoj Neupane, former CEO of Century Commercial Bank and current Deputy CEO of Prabhu Bank, along with Tulsiram Gautam, former CEO of Century Bank, have been arrested by the police in Kathmandu. The arrests were made following the Central Bank’s directive to investigate alleged irregularities in loan transactions.

Maoist Centre stands firm on claiming NA chairperson post

The CPN (Maoist Centre)’s Standing Committee meeting today witnessed a resolute stance from party leaders, asserting that the party should assert its claim on the National Assembly’s (NA) Chairperson post, citing its status as the largest party in the NA. Speaking to media representatives at the party’s central office in Parisdanda following the meeting, Vice-Chairperson and Spokesperson Agni Prasad Sapkota revealed that a majority of the party’s leaders expressed the view that relinquishing the NA Chairperson post would be unwarranted, given the party’s significant representation in the NA.

Former PM and Chinese Ambassador hold courtesy meeting

A courtesy meeting was held between Unified Socialist’s senior leader and former Prime Minister, Jhalanath Khanal, and Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Chen Song, today. The two met at the former’s residence in Dallu of Kathmandu this morning. During the meeting, they discussed cotemporary political issues, matters of mutual interests and various issues relating to Nepal-China relations.

Agriculture warrants proper attention: Lawmaker Prem Suwal

Leader of Nepal Workers and Peasant Party (NWPP), Prem Suwal, asserts that country’s economy would not thrive as long as the agriculture is ignored. Suwal, who was elected as a member of the House of Representatives from constituency no 1 of Bhaktapur district, expressed worry over sheer indifference to the issues raised at parliament for farmers and agriculture development.

Gold price remains stagnant today

Gold price remained unchanged in the Nepali market today. According to the Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the price of fine gold has been fixed at Rs 118,300 per tola and standard gold is traded at Rs 117,750 per tola. The precious yellow metal was traded at Rs. 118,300 per tola, and standard gold at Rs. 117,750 per tola on Monday.

Weeklong detention for protesters of loan sharking and microfinance exploitation

The Kathmandu District Court has approved the detention of victims of loan sharking and microfinance exploitation for a week, following their protest within the premises of the Federal Parliament building in New Baneshwor. Protesting against usury and financial exploitation, the demonstrators breached the restricted area in Kathmandu and entered the Parliament building. The police are now conducting an investigation into the incident and preparing to file cases against the detainees.
