TU gears up for FSU elections

KATHMANDU: Tribhuvan University (TU) has begun preparations for the Free Students Union (FSU) elections scheduled for February 27, 2025.

Director of the Directorate of Student Welfare and Sports, Pashupati Adhikari, confirmed that the process for conducting the elections is underway.

A meeting of the Student Welfare Council was recently held to deliberate on the elections. According to Adhikari, the university has included the election date in its academic calendar and plans to advance preparations in coordination with student organizations.

Leaders of various student unions have also initiated groundwork for the elections.

ANNFSU Chair Samik Wadal stated that his organization has formed a manifesto preparation committee, headed by deputy chair Govinda Giri, and scheduled district and central committee meetings in the coming weeks to finalize their election strategy.

Nepali Congress’ Nepal Students’ Union spokesperson Suraj Sejuwal announced that representatives have been appointed across campuses where elections will be held, with efforts underway to expand their presence nationwide.

Similarly, ANNFSU (Revolutionary) chair Pancha Singh has directed campus committees to begin election preparations.

The FSU elections, traditionally held every two years, have faced disruptions in recent years.

The last nationwide election occurred on March 19, 2023, excluding nine campuses that failed to conduct polls.

This year’s election will involve 62 constituent campuses and 1,040 affiliated campuses of TU, using a mixed electoral system and an age limit of 28 years for candidates.
