President Paudel inaugurates suspension bridge at Susta



LUMBINI: President Ram Chandra Paudel has inaugurated a multi-suspension bridge constructed on the Narayani river at Susta of Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta West) amidst a function here today.

Chief Minister of Lumbini Province, Chet Narayan Acharya, welcomed the President at the venue.

President Paudel is also scheduled to launch power supply from Integrated Nepal Power System in Susta area, said Chief District Officer of Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta East), Scheme Shrestha.

Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Urban Development, Prakash Man Singh, Chief of Lumbini Province, Krishna Bahadur Gharti Magar, Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Dipak Khadka, Speaker of Lumbini Province, Tula Ram Gharti Magar, members of House of Representatives, Lumbini Province Assembly members, among others were present on the occasion.

Around 350 families have been residing at Susta area.

Before the construction of the suspension bridge, they were compelled to use Indian land for reaching Nawalparasi or make risky travel by boat.

The 1,571 meters long suspension bridge was constructed at a cost of Rs 209.3 million.

The construction of the bridge was started in 2072 BS. Out of 350 families, more than 25 per cent do not have citizenship and land ownership certificates, said ward member of Susta-5, Adam Khan.

Though they were residing at Susta since many years, they have been deprived of citizenship and land owner certificate, he added.
