Weather likely to change dramatically over next four days

KATHMANDU: The country’s weather is set to change dramatically over the next four days, beginning today.

The Weather Forecasting Division has issued a special bulletin indicating that 56 districts are at high risk for heavy rainfall.

Currently, monsoon winds are affecting the entire country, influenced by water vapor from the Bay of Bengal and a low-pressure system in the region.

From Thursday afternoon, through Sunday, the country is expected to be generally overcast, with light to moderate rain and occasional thunderstorms.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is anticipated in many areas of Lumbini Province and some parts of Madhes, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces, as noted in the bulletin.

The bulletin has also warned of possible storms in various parts of the Terai region, with very heavy rainfall expected in isolated locations within Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, as well as in a few areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Madhes, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces.

Beginning today, light to moderate rain is expected nationwide, with the potential for heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms in select areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces, along with one or two places in Madhes Province.

Storms may also occur in certain areas of the Terai region.

On Friday (tomorrow), conditions are expected to remain generally overcast, with light to moderate rains and heavy to very heavy rainfall likely in specific areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Sudurpaschim, Karnali, and Madhes provinces.

Storms may develop in parts of the Terai region.

The forecast for Saturda) predicts mostly cloudy skies across the country, with light to moderate rains and possible thunderstorms, particularly in Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Karnali provinces, along with heavy to very heavy rain in some areas.

Windstorms are also possible in parts of Lumbini, Gandaki, and Karnali provinces.

On Sunday, light to moderate rain is expected throughout the country, with conditions remaining partly to mostly cloudy.

Heavy rains with thunderstorms may occur in isolated areas of Gandaki, Lumbini, and Karnali provinces.

The Division has advised the public and relevant agencies to remain vigilant, as rising water levels in rivers and streams could disrupt daily life, agriculture, health services, tourism, construction, and transportation.

In particular, the bulletin has identified 53 districts classified as high risk.

These areas include Jhapa, Sunsari, Dhankuta, Tehrathum, Khotang, Okhaldhunga, Udaypur, Bhojpur, Ilam, Panchthar, and Morang in Koshi Province.

In Madhes Province, Sirha, Saptari, and Parsa are also at high risk.

In Bagmati Province, Makwanpur, Chitwan, Dhading, Nuwakot, Rasuwa, Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Kavrepalanchowk, Sindhupalchowk, Sindhuli, and Ramechhap are on the list.

Meanwhile, Myagdi, Baglung, Tanahun, Syangja, Nawalparasi East, Kaski, Parbat, Lamjung, Gorkha, and Manang districts of Gandaki Province are at risk, along with Jajarkot, Rukum Paschim, Dailekh, Surkhet, Salyan, Doti, Kailali, and Acham in Sudurpaschim Province.
