CHITWAN: A total of 588 dengue cases have been confirmed among the 2,394 patients treated in various hospitals across the district.
Of these, 417 are residents of Chitwan, while 171 are from outside the district, according to Ram KC, Inspector at the Public Health Office, Chitwan.
He stated that dengue is transmitted through mosquito bites.
KC explained that mosquitoes are most active and pose a higher risk of transmitting dengue two hours before sunrise and two hours before sunset.
Individuals who are exposed to mosquitoes during these times are at a greater risk of infection.
Since July, the district has reported 236 dengue cases in Ichchakamana Rural Municipality.
Other municipalities have also seen infections: Bharatpur Metropolitan Municipality has recorded 107 cases, Khaireni has 11, Ratnanagar has 49, Madi and Rapti each have 3, and Kalika Municipality has 8 cases.
Among the infected individuals, there are 225 women and 192 men.
Dengue is transmitted by the bite of a female Aedes mosquito, which thrives in stagnant water found in plastic containers, tin cans, old tires, and other such places.
KC warned that if these water sources are not cleaned, the risk of an outbreak increases.
Dengue fever typically lasts for five to seven days and presents symptoms including high fever, headache, eye pain, body and muscle aches, joint pain, and bleeding.
Additional symptoms can include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and bleeding from the nose or gums.
As dengue fever is caused by a virus, there is no specific treatment; therefore, avoiding mosquito bites remains the primary preventive measure.
