KATHMANDU: India and Bangladesh are set to clash in today’s semi-final of the SAFF U-20 Championship.
Nepal has already secured its place in the final after defeating Bhutan in a thrilling tie-breaker on Sunday.
The match took place at the ANFA Complex in Satdobato, where Nepal triumphed 4-1 in the penalty shootout.
Nepal’s goalkeeper, Jiyarath Sheikh, was instrumental in their victory, successfully denying three Bhutanese players during the penalty shootout, which paved the way for Nepal’s advancement to the final.
In the tie-breaker, Ran Thapa scored the first penalty for Nepal, while Bhutan’s Jetsen Dorjey matched it with a goal.
Avinash Syangtan then scored for Nepal, and Gigmey Nyamgel missed for Bhutan. In the third round, Ugwen Jigme’s attempt was blocked by Sheikh.
Jiyarath Sheikh then scored the decisive fourth penalty, securing Nepal’s place in the final.
The teams had been evenly matched during the initial 90 minutes, with each side scoring once.
