MANAHARI: Three individuals lost their lives and 16 others have fallen ill within a week of consuming wild mushroom curry in Makwanpur district.

The deceased include Dipesh Lama, the four-year-old son of Binod Lama from Kailash Rural Municipality, Nirumaya Rumba, 25, also from the same locality, and Bal Bahadur, 55, from Raksirang Rural Municipality-7, as confirmed by Deputy Superintendent of Police and Spokesperson of District Police Office, Makwanpur, Laxmi Bhandari.

Eight individuals have been discharged after treatment at Bharatpur Hospital in Chitwan, while eight others remain under medical care.

As the rainy season begins, mushrooms sprout in forests, tempting locals to gather them for cooking.

Unfortunately, some varieties are toxic, causing fatalities annually.

Authorities have advised caution and urged the public to refrain from consuming wild mushrooms.
