PM Dahal calls on NC President Deuba ahead of parliament meeting

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal met with Sher Bahadur Deuba, President of the Nepali Congress (NC) and leader of the main opposition party, on Sunday morning.

The meeting took place ahead of the scheduled parliamentary session to pass the government’s policies and programs.

According to the Prime Minister’s secretariat, the purpose of the meeting was to develop a political consensus between the ruling and opposition parties and to end the parliamentary deadlock.

Meanwhile, key NC leaders have been in discussions at Deuba’s residence in Budhanilkantha since early Sunday morning.

PM Dahal has also summoned a meeting of the key leaders of various parties.

For the past month, the Nepali Congress has been obstructing parliamentary meetings, demanding the formation of a parliamentary probe committee to investigate the involvement of Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane in a cooperative fraud case.

Although the government and opposition parties have agreed to form a probe committee, they have not reached an agreement on the Terms of Reference for the proposed panel.

Simultaneously, the Nepali Congress is holding a street protest in the capital against the government and the cooperative fraud.
