‘Mass Casualty Event’ as US bridge collapses into river after being hit by ship



BALTIMORE: In a dramatic incident, a bridge in the US city of Baltimore has collapsed entirely into the Patapsco River following a collision with a container ship.

According to the Baltimore City Fire Department, seven individuals along with several vehicles have plunged into the river. The fire department, currently on-site, is actively engaged in response efforts.

Reports indicate that a large vessel struck a column of the Francis Scott Key Bridge at approximately 01:30 ET (05:30 GMT). Social media videos depict the bridge rapidly descending into the water.

Fortunately, no casualties have been reported thus far. Nevertheless, a significant multi-agency rescue and recovery operation is underway to address the situation and ensure the safety of all individuals involved.
