Ministry of Home Affairs initiates probe into assault on immigration officials at TIA



KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Home Affairs has established a committee to investigate the recent incident of assault on immigration officials at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu.

On Friday, a confrontation unfolded between immigration official Chhayalal Moktan and the airport’s security personnel.

Sources indicate that Moktan faced assault from on-duty security personnel when he resisted undergoing a metal detector check. Furthermore, when the chief of the immigration office, Gogan Bahadur Hamal, intervened to investigate the matter, he too was subjected to mistreatment by the security personnel.

Acknowledging the gravity of the incident, the Ministry of Home Affairs has constituted a three-member investigation committee, led by Under-Secretary Thaneshwar Gautam.

The committee comprises DIG Rajeshnath Bastola and immigration officer Kul Bahadur GC.

The committee is mandated to provide a comprehensive report along with recommendations within the next three days.
