Ushakiran responds to UML’s action: An imitation of the Panchayat system

KATHMANDU: UML Central Committee member Ushakiran Timalsina, who had publicly opposed the construction of the party’s office on land donated by entrepreneur Min Bahadur Gurung, has faced disciplinary action, resulting in a six-month suspension.

Timalsina, a prominent young leader from the UML’s 10th General Convention, has been a vocal critic of party chair KP Sharma Oli.

While the UML secretariat meeting in Chyasal on Wednesday finalized the disciplinary actions, Timalsina was busy in her home district attending a swearing-in ceremony for the Shivapuri Village Municipality Committee under Nuwakot Constituency No. 1, where she was fulfilling her party responsibilities. She learned about her suspension only after returning home.

Reacting to the decision, Timalsina criticized the move as a replication of outdated practices.

“While carrying out party duties in the village, I found out about the six-month suspension. It would have been better if the leadership, who once fought against the Panchayat system, had not imitated its style,” she said.

On the same day, the UML also suspended Standing Committee member Binda Pandey for six months and expelled former vice-chair Bhim Rawal from the party entirely.
