Bhim Rawal expelled from CPN-UML, ending four-decade association
The CPN-UML has expelled former Vice-Chair Dr. Bhim Rawal from the party’s organized membership, marking the end of his four-decade-long association with the party.
A secretariat meeting held on Wednesday decided to terminate Rawal’s membership, stating that his actions and statements were against the party’s interests.
Deputy General Secretary Pradeep Gyawali confirmed the decision to the media, highlighting that Rawal’s continuous anti-party activities had weakened the organization.
UML suspends Binda Pandey and Ushakiran Timalsina for six months
The CPN-UML has suspended Standing Committee member Binda Pandey and Central Committee member Ushakiran Timalsina from their respective responsibilities for six months.
The party’s secretariat meeting on Wednesday also decided to remove former Vice-Chair Bhim Rawal from the party’s organized membership.
According to UML Deputy General Secretary Pradeep Gyawali, the party sought clarifications from both leaders, but their responses were deemed unsatisfactory.
Karnali Development Bank declared troubled, management taken over by NRB
Karnali Development Bank has been declared a troubled institution by Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB).
In a meeting held on Wednesday, the NRB board decided to declare the bank problematic under Section 86(b) of the Nepal Rastra Bank Act, 2058. Following the declaration, NRB has taken control of the bank’s management.
A three-member management team has been formed, led by NRB Deputy Director Tikaram Khatri. This team will assume its responsibilities starting Thursday.
Alcohol advertisement boards removed from Sonu Nigam concert venue
Advertisement boards promoting alcoholic beverages placed near the venue for the “Sonu Nigam Live in Nepal” concert at Hyatt Ground, Tusal, Boudha, have been removed by Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC).
The KMC police has dismantled 150 unauthorized boards on Wednesday, ahead of the event.
According to Mayor Balen Shah’s secretariat, the action was taken as part of the city’s policy to regulate alcohol-related advertisements.
Govt introduces ordinance to regulate cooperatives and ensure refund of lost deposits
A new ordinance aimed at regulating cooperatives and ensuring the return of funds lost by depositors is set to reach the President’s office at Shital Niwas on Thursday.
The decision follows a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday evening, which approved amendments to the Cooperative Act of 2017, the Nepal Rastra Bank Act of 2002, and the Deposit and Credit Protection Fund Act of 2016.
Communications and Information Technology Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung confirmed on Wednesday that the Cabinet had decided to issue the ordinance.
Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower resumes partial operation after flood-induced damages
The 456-megawatt Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Project, severely damaged by floods and landslides in September, has resumed partial electricity generation.
Located in Lamabagar, Bigu Rural Municipality-1, Dolakha, the project restarted operations on Tuesday after nearly three months of repair work.
Floods and landslides triggered by incessant rains on September 27 and 28 caused extensive damage to the project’s infrastructure, including the sand-storage ponds, control building, and underground canals.
