KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML has suspended Standing Committee member Binda Pandey and Central Committee member Ushakiran Timalsina from their respective responsibilities for six months.

The party’s secretariat meeting on Wednesday also decided to remove former Vice-Chair Bhim Rawal from the party’s organized membership.

According to UML Deputy General Secretary Pradeep Gyawali, the party sought clarifications from both leaders, but their responses were deemed unsatisfactory.

As a result, they were relieved of their responsibilities for six months with additional instructions to adhere to party directives.

Pandey and Timalsina had publicly opposed the party’s decision to accept land donated by Min Bahadur Gurung, owner of the Bhatbhateni Supermarket, for the construction of a new party office in Kirtipur.

Their public dissent led to disciplinary action.

Although a proposal to demote both leaders by one level was initially discussed, the meeting ultimately opted for a temporary suspension from responsibilities.

In the same meeting, the party also reviewed the case of Bhim Rawal, who had repeatedly expressed disagreement with the party’s official stance in public. Rawal did not submit a clarification when asked, leading to his removal from organized membership.

The donated land, measuring 10 ropani and 14 anna, will house the party’s new central office in Maitrinagar, Kirtipur.

Prime Minister and UML Chair KP Sharma Oli had laid the foundation stone for the office on October 11.

Entrepreneur Min Bahadur Gurung had pledged to oversee the building’s construction within a year.
