Increased monitoring at Mahottari border points to prevent illegal activities

KATHMANDU: The local administration in Mahottari has intensified monitoring at border points shared with India to curb illegal activities in the region.

Led by Chief District Officer Lalbabu Kawari, the monitoring team on Tuesday shut down several shops operating without proper licenses, including those selling alcohol and related products.

This action follows rising complaints from locals about increased illegal alcohol trade along the Nepal-India border, prompted by the prohibition of alcohol in the Indian state of Bihar.

The administration has announced that regular monitoring will now be conducted in border areas such as Matihani, Parsa Pataili, Malibada Bhittamod, Tharuwaahi, Nainhi, Maruwahi, Bathnaha, Samsi, Raghunathpur, and Katikataya.

The monitoring team includes representatives from the District Police Office, Armed Police Force, National Investigation Department, and the Taxpayer Service Office.
