Rabi too should face punishment if found guilty: PM Oli

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister (PM) KP Oli stated that if Rabi Lamichhane, Chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), is found guilty in the cooperative fraud case, he should be prepared to face the same consequences as others involved.

PM Oli made these comments during a meeting of the seven ruling political parties at his official residence in Baluwatar on Friday evening.

According to a leader, who attended the meeting, the Prime Minister did not specifically name Lamichhane but emphasized that over 575 individuals are currently imprisoned in connection with the fraud case.

During the briefing on the cooperative fraud situation, PM Oli noted that more than 600 people have been prosecuted, with 575 already serving sentences.

He indicated that similar penalties would apply to Lamichhane if he is found guilty, reinforcing that anyone guilty of the same crimes should be held accountable.

Lamichhane is currently in custody of the Kaski police regarding the cooperative fraud case, and an arrest warrant has also been issued against him from Rupandehi.

On Friday, police apprehended Ram Bahadur Khanal, a partner of Lamichhane, along with GB Rai and Chabilal Joshi.

Additionally, the seven ruling parties issued a joint statement regarding the cooperative case, signed by Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli; Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba; Janata Samajwadi Party Co-Chair Renu Yadav; Janamat Party Chairman Dr. CK Raut; Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal Vice Chair Raj Kishor Yadav; Loktantrik Samajwadi Party Chair Mahantha Thakur; and Nagarik Unmukti Party Chair Ranjita Shrestha.
