KATHMANDU: The seven ruling parties have raised serious objections to the recent protests organized by the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) regarding the arrest of RSP Chairman Rabi Lamichhane.

In a joint statement issued on Friday, the coalition—including the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML—expressed concerns about attempts to sway the ongoing investigation into Lamichhane’s case.

The parties emphasized that since an investigation is underway based on the unanimous report from the Parliamentary Special Committee of Inquiry into the Misappropriation of Cooperative Society Savings, 2081, it is crucial that no outside influences disrupt this process.

“In order to ensure that no one is innocent and no one is guilty, positive cooperation from all parties is needed for the processes of investigation, prosecution, and justice,” the statement read.

“However, recent activities appear aimed at influencing these processes.”

The parties highlighted that gatherings in various districts, including Pokhara and Kathmandu, are being used to exert pressure on the investigation.

“Actions that attempt to sway the investigation and apply pressure on the courts are contrary to democracy and the rule of law,” the seven parties asserted.

“We strongly oppose such activities.” They reaffirmed their commitment to implement all recommendations and directives from the parliamentary inquiry committee concerning cooperative issues.

Following Lamichhane’s arrest for cooperative fraud, his supporters have initiated protests in Pokhara and Kathmandu, calling for a nationwide movement against the government and claiming that Lamichhane has been unjustly targeted.

The Kaski court has issued two deadlines regarding Lamichhane’s case.
