Hailstones damage harvest time crops planted on 355 ropanis



MYAGDI: Rain coupled with hailstones occurred on Sunday evening has destroyed paddy and millet crops planted on 355 ropanis of land at Gaushwara and Tamane of Beni municipality-2 in Myagdi district.

As per the assessment conducted by a team comprising local people’s representatives and agro technicians for three days, the rainfall with hailstones caused huge damages of crops at Gaushwara and Tamane.

The team made public the details of losses on Thursday evening. Ward member of Beni municipality-2, Chandra Kant Rijal said rain with hailstones has damaged harvest time crops.

Ward chairperson of Beni-2, Yam Bahadur Karki said around 80 per cent of paddy planted at Gaushwara has been damaged. He further said they would request the bodies concerned for compensation or relief to victim farmers.

The rainfall with hailstone has damaged paddy planted at Sanalekh, Gaushwara, Tamane, Phaparkhet, Khabara, Bagarphant of Beni-2 and Torakhet of Bhakimli of Beni-3, Arman, Ratnechaur, as well as other places of Beni-1, said Rijal.

Chief of Agriculture Knowledge Office, Sanjeev Bastola, said they have not received the integrated data of the losses as local levels in the district have been collecting the details of losses.
