Police arrest 2 in connection with murder of ward chair in Mahottari

KATHMANDU: Nepal Police have arrested two suspects in the murder of Mukesh Kumar Yadav, the ward chair of Ramgopalpur municipality-2.

Sanjeev Jha and Dilip Mandal, both residents of Aurhi Municipality-7, were arrested following a thorough investigation by the District Police Office Mahottari.

DSP Santu Lal Prasad Jaiswar confirmed the arrests and stated that a case has been filed against the two, with further investigations underway.

Yadav, a member of the CPN (Maoist Center), was found deceased under a culvert along the Jaleshwar-Bardibas road on the morning of August 9.

His body was discovered after an apparent accident, raising immediate suspicions among local leaders and activists from his party.

They have called for a thorough investigation by the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), citing the circumstances surrounding his death as suspicious.

Party representatives highlighted that on the night preceding his death, Yadav was accompanied by Sanjeev, Dilip, and two female friends who reportedly dined with him at a restaurant in Bardibas.

Concerns about the timeline and their proximity to Yadav have fueled speculation regarding foul play.
In response to public pressure and calls for accountability, Nepal Police have accelerated their investigation.

Following their arrest, Sanjeev and Dilip were remanded by the district court.
