PM Oli holds meeting with Finland’s President Stubb
Prime Minister (PM) KP Oli, who is currently in New York to participate in the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) leading a Nepali delegation, held a meeting with Finland’s President, Alexander Stubb.
The two leaders had a meeting at the headquarters of the United Nations in New York.
Also present on the occasion were PM Oli’s chief advisor Bishnu Prasad Rimal, foreign secretary Sewa Lamsal, permanent representative of Nepal to the UN Lok Bahadur Thapa among others.
PM Oli holds talks with his Samoa counterpart
Prime Minister (PM) KP Oli, who is currently in New York to participate in the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) leading a Nepali delegation, held talks with Samoa’s Prime Minister Faime Naomi Matafa.
They held the sideline meeting at the office of the permanent mission of Samoa to the UN in New York.
Also present on the occasion were PM Oli’s chief advisor Bishnu Prasad Rimal, foreign secretary Sewa Lamsal, permanent representative of Nepal to the UN Lok Bahadur Thapa among others.
In his final UN address, Biden spotlights world conflicts, calls for peace
President Joe Biden used his final address before world leaders at the United Nations General Assembly to call for peace in Lebanon and an end to the conflict in Gaza — two prospects that analysts say are unlikely to happen soon.
“A full-scale war is not in anyone’s interest,” Biden said, referring to the escalating conflict between Israel and Hezbollah. He said a diplomatic solution is still possible.
As the conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza nears the one-year mark, Biden urged the parties to “finalize the terms” of a cease-fire and hostage deal that has been endorsed by the U.N. Security Council.
Gold price sets new record today
A new record has been set for gold prices in the Nepalese market today (Wednesday).
According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Traders, the price of fine gold has surged by Rs 700 to reach Rs 160,400 rupees per tola.
This marks an increase from Tuesday’s trading price of Rs 159,700 per tola.
Lawyers protest against CJ Shrestha’s judicial appointments ahead of retirement
Chief Justice (CJ) Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha, who is set to retire on October 6, encountered strong opposition from the Nepal Bar Association (NBA) as he attempted to recommend a new judge.
As Shrestha moved to propose a judicial appointment during a meeting of the Judicial Council on Wednesday afternoon, lawyers protested with black banners, expressing their dissent.
The NBA has been vocal in its stance, demonstrating across the country against what they deem unconstitutional regulations regarding judicial appointments.
Fraud case filed against GB Rai and 16 others in Chitwan District Court
A high-profile case has been registered in the Chitwan District Court against Geetendra Babu Rai (GB) and 16 others, accused of defrauding multiple cooperatives.
Rai, who is currently absconding, is alleged to have taken millions of rupees from over half a dozen cooperatives, including the Sahara Multi-Purpose Cooperative Organization in Chitwan.
The defendants include prominent figures such as Sagar KC, Hemant Rai, Bhupendra Rai, Ashish Anand, Anantababu Rai, Chhatramani Bhattarai, Devendra Babu Rai, Dinesh Roka, Tirtharaj Lamichhane, Manoj Gurung, Deepa Neupane, Shiv Prasad Acharya, Kumar Ramtel, Bir Bahadur Ranabhat, Sharan Vishwakarma, and Than Bahadur Baidya.
NAC to sell int’l tickets from cities outside Kathmandu
Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) has decided to sell international flight tickets from the cities outside Kathmandu – Biratnagar, Pokhara and Nepalgunj.
The Corporation has arranged ticket sales from those cities for the convenience of the passengers in the wake of major festivals like Dashain, Tihar and Chhath.
Earlier, the NAC was selling tickets for international flights only from the corporation’s office at Bhairahawa outside Kathmandu.
