Home Minister Lekhak calls for burnishing immigration’s image



KATHMANDU: Minister for Home Affairs Ramesh Lekhak emphasized the need for the Immigration Office to enhance its public image.

Inspecting the Immigration Office at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu today, Minister Lekhak alerted the immigration officers of the negative perceptions towards the office and thus underscored burnishing its image.

The Home Minister warned that any untoward activities at the immigration office were unacceptable, referring to the negative impression about the office among the citizens and passengers alike.

He instructed the immigration personnel to collaborate effectively with the other public agencies at the Airport to deliver well.

Home Minister Lekhak asserted, “International airport is like a mirror to any country. This is the first impression of Nepal for foreign travelers as it reflects our values and hospitality.”

He highlighted the need for the immigration officers to displaying qualities such as professionalism, tolerance, amicable and soft behavior and service-oriented to the passengers and other service-seekers.

On the occasion, the employees at the Immigration Office drew the attention of inspecting Minister towards the lack of sufficient space for the immigration office and of various physical infrastructures at the TIA for them to deliver optimally and efficiently.

They also pointed out the need for training for the immigration employees update themselves.

Minister Lekhak was accompanied by Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs Gokarna Mani Duwadi.
