Khandbari Hospital overwhelmed by surge in dengue and viral cases

KIMATHANKA: Khandbari Hospital in Sankhuwasabha district is experiencing a shortage of beds due to a sharp increase in patients suffering from viral fever, dengue, and scrub typhus.

According to the hospital, the number of cases has surged since mid-July, creating challenges in managing patient accommodation.

Shekhar Khatri, the hospital’s information officer, reported a significant rise in viral fever and dengue cases.

Due to the shortage of beds, the hospital has resorted to using alternative spaces, including a hall and an open area, to treat patients.

The hospital has also seen a notable increase in scrub typhus cases, with 160 cases recorded since Baisakh (April-May) and 7 cases of dengue.

In the last fiscal year, Khandbari Hospital reported 1,144 cases of dengue and 520 cases of scrub typhus.

The rise in viral fever cases has been observed in both government and private health facilities.

Established in 2033 BS, Khandbari Hospital, located in the district headquarters, has a capacity of 50 beds.

It serves people from 10 local levels within the district and more than half the territory of neighboring Bhojpur.
