No immediate signing of BRI agreement: Prime Minister Dahal
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has stated that there will be no immediate signing of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) proposed by China. Responding to questions from members of parliament during the ongoing ‘Direct Question and Answer Program with the Prime Minister’ in the House of Representatives, Dahal mentioned that the implementation plan for the BRI, initially set to be discussed between the Planning Commission and its Chinese counterpart, is now more likely to involve the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its secretaries.
HoR passes budget for FY 2024/25 with majority
The House of Representatives (HoR) has approved the Appropriation Bill, 2081 BS, with a majority vote. Finance Minister Barsa Man Pun presented the proposal to endorse the bill during Tuesday’s HoR meeting. The government unveiled the budget earlier on May 28. Following the presentation, the HoR has been deliberating on the budget since June 11.
Koshi province govt: SC revokes Kedar Karki’s writ, Hikmat Karki’s govt gets continuation
The Supreme Court (SC) has dismissed the petition filed by former Chief Minister Kedar Karki against the Koshi Provincial Government. A full bench comprising Justices Kumar Regmi, Abdul Aziz Musalman, and Nahakul Subedi dismissed the petition after concluding the final hearing on Tuesday. Had the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the petition, Kedar Karki might have returned as Chief Minister.
GB Rai’s whereabouts traced two months ago
Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane’s recent claim that the government successfully traced the whereabouts of Gitendra Babu Rai (GB Rai), a fugitive involved in a cooperative fraud case, has created a buzz among the general public. However, this statement isn’t new, as it was first revealed two months ago. Inspector General of Police (IGP) Basanta Bahadur Kuwar initially disclosed Rai’s location. At that time, Narayan Kaji Shrestha of the CPN (Maoist Center) was the Home Minister.
No flexible monetary policy now: Governor Adhikari
Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari has urged not to expect a flexible monetary policy. Speaking at a program organized by the Society of Economic Journalists-Nepal (SEJON) in Kathmandu on Tuesday, Governor Adhikari mentioned that with inflation on the rise, it is natural for the monetary policy to remain tight, and thus, a flexible policy should not be anticipated. He stated that the upcoming monetary policy will be based on inflation data, which is currently being evaluated.
Initiatives underway to accept EPG report with mutual understanding: PM Dahal
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ announced that efforts are being made to accept the Nepal-India Eminent Persons Group (EPG) report through mutual understanding between the two nations. He emphasized that he initiated discussions on this matter during his recent visit to India. Responding to lawmakers’ supplementary questions regarding the budget and programs allocated to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its subordinate bodies under the Appropriation Bill, 2081, PM Dahal reiterated that Nepal-India relations and treaties would be advanced based on national consensus.
Initially critical, Oli praises budget after its approval
CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli stated that his party helped in passing the budget as it is good. Responding to questions from journalists at the Parliament building in New Baneshwor on Tuesday, Oli mentioned that the budget was passed by a majority in the House of Representatives because it is well-constructed. When asked about the Prime Minister’s complaints regarding the budget, Oli claimed he had not heard any such complaints.
Six persons arrested for cheating more than Rs 130 million
Nepal Police have arrested six proprietors of Kalanki Trade Centre on the charge of cheating more than Rs 130 million from different individuals in the name of providing them shutters (space for shops) at the center. A team of the District Police Range, Kathmandu, arrested them on the charge of cheating and made them public today. They are Shanti Raman Pangeni, 61, of Syangja, Narendra Bajracharya, 68, and Raju Maharjan, 51, of Kathmandu, Rajesh Krishna Shrestha, 62, of Lalitpur, Niranjan Kumar Shrestha, 53, of Palpa and Chiranjivi Poudel, 59, of Kaski.
Campus Chief’s death in Bara: Police nab seven on murder allegation
Police have arrested seven people in connection with the shooting and killing of a campus chief in Bara. Hari Bhushan Kushwaha, the principal of Ramraja Multiple Campus in Kalaiya, was murdered on June 14. According to DSP Dadhiram Neupane, the seven suspects arrested in the incident include: Awadhlal Prasad Kushwaha (32), Chandasi Prasad Kushwaha (29), Shrawan Kumar Sah, also known as Chulhai (27), Brahmadev Ram (50), Motilal Chaudhary (50), Radhesh Kumar Patel (34) and Binod Raut Kurmi (54).
