No flexible monetary policy now:  Governor Adhikari

KATHMANDU: Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari has urged not to expect a flexible monetary policy.

Speaking at a program organized by the Society of Economic Journalists-Nepal (SEJON) in Kathmandu on Tuesday, Governor Adhikari mentioned that with inflation on the rise, it is natural for the monetary policy to remain tight, and thus, a flexible policy should not be anticipated.

He stated that the upcoming monetary policy will be based on inflation data, which is currently being evaluated.

“The preparation for the monetary policy is underway, with an ongoing evaluation of the statistics,” said Adhikari, adding, “While there is high expectation from the central bank to simplify loan issues, NRB has its own limitations.”

Governor Adhikari also noted that the central bank is ready to address genuine issues faced by the private sector, stressing that the bank is open to solving real problems rather than opposing for the sake of opposition.

He addressed concerns about commissions being taken when acquiring loans, labeling it as a major banking offense, and urged those with evidence to come forward.

Adhikari emphasized that making accusations without evidence on public platforms would not lead to any action.
