Baluwatar meeting: No agreement on TOR for probe committee, top leaders to discuss tomorrow morning

The attempt of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ to seek consensus on the draft of terms of reference (TOR) for parliamentary probe committee to investigate on the cooperatives-related fraud. According to Nepali Congress (NC) Deputy General Secretary Jeevan Pariyar informed that Prime Minister Dahal, party President Sher Bahadur Deuba, and UML Chairman KP Oli will discuss the issues reached closer to agreement by the task force at 9 am tomorrow.

NC will remain in opposition until 2084: UML Vice Chair Poudel

CPN-UML Vice Chairman Bishnu Poudel has claimed that the main opposition party Nepali Congress (NC) is destined to remain in opposition until 2084 BS. Addressing the 11th district convention of the party in Chitwan, Poudel stated that NC would be kept in opposition and taken to the elections in that position. “NC has always gone to elections while in power. UML has always gone to elections while in opposition. This time, NC is destined to remain in opposition until 2084 BS,” he said. “This alliance will last until the elections.”

KMG Chair Sirohiya hospitalized due to heart issues

Kailash Sirohiya, Chairman of Kantipur Media Group in custody of District Police Office, Dhanusha, has been hospitalized due to heart problems. Sirohiya, who has been in the custody for five days over a citizenship-related dispute, was admitted to the hospital after experiencing high blood pressure, irregular heartbeats, and severe headaches, according to his lawyer, Raman Karn. He was admitted to the Provincial Hospital in Janakpur on Friday evening. However, due to the lack of neurology facilities there, he was transferred to Kavya Hospital.

Agreement on probe panel ToR by Sunday: Minister Giri

Minister for Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Padam Giri has stated that the ruling and opposition parties will reach an agreement on the Terms of Reference (ToR) for the proposed parliamentary investigation committee by Sunday. Speaking at an event organized by the Federation of Nepal Journalists in Parbat, Minister Giri expressed confidence that the task force would finalize the ToR before Sunday’s parliament meeting. The Nepali Congress (NC), the main opposition party, has been insisting on including the name of Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane in the ToR.

Budget will be presented and passed through due process: Minister Aryal

Minister for Labor and Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Vice President Dol Prasad Aryal has asserted that the budget will be passed through the due process. Speaking to Khabarhub on Saturday, Aryal expressed confidence that an agreement with the Nepali Congress (NC) would be reached by Sunday. “An agreement will be reached by tomorrow. The budget will come through the proper process. Our colleagues are engaged in discussions at various stages to reach a consensus,” he said.

Rs 2400 billion outstanding public debt

The country’s outstanding public debt has reached nearly Rs 2,400 billion. The public debt witnessed a rise of Rs 98 billion in the last 10 months of the current fiscal year alone, according to Public Debt Management Office (PDMO). In the beginning of the current fiscal year, the public debt stood at Rs 2,299 billion, the Office said, adding that the public debt accounts 42.02 percent of gross domestic product (GDP). The last month, Baisakh, witnessed Rs 11.64 billion rise in the public debt.

KMC directs schools to appoint information officers

Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has directed all community and institutional schools within its jurisdiction to appoint information officers. The local body mandated that these appointments be completed by May 27. According to Govinda Prasad Sharma, the chief of the Education Department at the metropolis, this is not the first time such a directive has been issued.

Recount of votes for mayoral election in Byas scheduled for June 16

The recount of votes for the mayoral election in Byas municipality of Tanahu is scheduled to begin on June 16. This follows a High Court order mandating a recount after the latest local elections held on May 13, 2022. On May 14, the High Court, Patan ordered a recount of the votes, with the full text of the order released on Friday. The court stipulated that the recount must be completed within a month.
