Cooperatives fraud: No agreement on TOR for probe committee, top leaders to discuss on Sunday morning

KATHMANDU: The attempt of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ to seek consensus on the draft of terms of reference (TOR) for parliamentary probe committee to investigate on the cooperatives-related fraud could not yield an outcome.

Nepali Congress (NC) Deputy General Secretary Jeevan Pariyar informed that Prime Minister Dahal, party President Sher Bahadur Deuba, and UML Chairman KP Oli will discuss the issues reached closer to agreement by the task force at 9 am tomorrow.

UML Chairman Oli and NC President Deuba did not attend the meeting.

Deuba was reportedly unwell, and Oli sent representatives including Bishnu Poudel and Raghubir Mahaseth.

Saturday’s meeting held at the Prime Minister’s residence Baluwatar included PM Dahal, Law Minister Padam Giri, NC Deputy General Secretary Pariyar, lawmaker Gyanendra Bahadur Karki, UML Chief Whip Mahesh Bartaula, and Rastriya Swatantra Party lawmaker Shishir Khanal.

Pariyar also noted that NC Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka, General Secretary Gagan Thapa, Chief Whip Ramesh Lekhak, and leader Krishna Sitaula participated in the meeting.

Earlier on Saturday, the task force meeting had agreed to form a TOR for investigating cooperatives, but the final approval was left to the top leaders.
