KATHMANDU: The meeting of the task force formed to determine the terms of reference (TOR) for the parliamentary committee to investigate the cooperative fraud case has commenced in Kathmandu.

The meeting, scheduled for 3 pm at the Ministry of Law, began after 4 pm due to a delay in the arrival of committee coordinator and Minister of Law, Padam Giri, from Parbat.

Giri stated that the meeting would be decisive in preparing the TOR for the type and scope of the investigation committee.

“We are working towards an agreement to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the cooperatives without naming any specific individual,” Giri told Khabarhub on Saturday.

He added that today’s meeting is considered decisive by both the ruling and opposition parties.

The Nepali Congress has been continuously obstructing the parliament, demanding an investigation into Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane’s alleged involvement in the cooperative fraud case.

NC has indicated that while it does not wish to name individuals, it is open to an agreement that allows for an investigation into the institutions associated with Minister Lamichhane.

“We may agree if there are grounds for investigating the institutions associated with Minister Lamichhane without naming individuals,” NC Chief Whip Ramesh Lekhak said.

The task force for preparing the TOR includes Law Minister Giri, NC Deputy General Secretary Jeevan Pariyar, lawmaker Gyanendra Bahadur Karki, UML Chief Whip Mahesh Bartaula, and RSP’s Shishir Khanal.
