KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology has called upon the Election Commission (EC) to furnish details regarding the work execution committees of political parties.

As per the Ministry’s directive, a formal request has been made to the EC seeking comprehensive information on the office-bearers of all central, provincial, and district-level work execution committees affiliated with political parties.

Sumana Shrestha, representing the Secretariat of the Minister for Education, Science, and Technology, affirmed that the purpose of obtaining these details from the EC is to initiate action against educators affiliated with political parties.

Upon receiving the records from the EC, the Ministry plans to cross-verify the information with its existing database of teachers and employees.

Minister Shrestha has repeatedly cautioned of pursuing legal measures against educators and staff members found holding positions within the work execution committees of political parties.

Numerous complaints have been received alleging that teachers and staff members of community schools have joined various political parties, assuming roles within their work execution committees, and serving as delegates in party conventions.

Previously, the Ministry issued a circular to all district-based education development and coordination units, instructing them to take appropriate action against teachers and staff members who are part of political parties’ work execution committees.

Some district units have already initiated action in line with the circular’s directives.

Furthermore, ministerial decisions have been made to enforce the removal of teachers holding positions within political parties’ work execution committees in accordance with existing laws and court rulings.

The Ministry intends to continue addressing complaints of a similar nature and take appropriate action accordingly.
