Judicial Council dismisses Judges Thapaliya and Niraula from positions

KATHMANDU: The Judicial Council (JC) has removed two judges embroiled in controversy.

In a meeting held on Sunday, the Council decided to dismiss High Court Judge Dr. Navaraj Thapaliya and District Court Judge Ambika Prasad Niraula.

The Council has sent a letter to the Supreme Court for the dismissal of both justices.

The meeting raised questions about their conduct and competence, leading to their dismissal.

Thapaliya was serving in the Surkhet High Court in Jumla Bench, where he faced disciplinary action by the Judicial Council for misconduct.

Chief Justice Bishowambhar Prasad Shrestha had made the decision to take action against Thapaliya in the Judicial Council.

Niraula, stationed at the Kathmandu District Court, faced serious allegations related to abduction and extortion in connection with a Nepali citizen declared as an Indian citizen.

JC has alerted Judge Rajkumar Koirala relating to an audio tape scandal involving a sum of Rs 20 million.
