UML outraged over PM Dahal’s absence in parliament, demands accountability

Speaker Ghimire directs government to address opposition queries

KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML, Nepal’s main opposition party, voiced strong disapproval over Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s absence from a crucial session of the House of Representatives (HoR).

During Sunday’s parliamentary session, Padam Giri, UML’s chief whip, criticized PM Dahal for evading parliamentary responsibilities and failing to address concerns raised by opposition parties.

“The government’s reluctance to address opposition queries is evident. PM Dahal’s absence reflects a disregard for crucial parliamentary matters. While we are not inclined to disrupt parliamentary proceedings, the government’s indifference leaves us no choice,” stated Giri.

In response to the opposition’s demand for answers, Speaker Devraj Ghimire directed the government to address the concerns raised by opposition parties.

The CPN-UML has consistently called for the removal of ministers implicated in corruption scandals, including the Balkumari incident.

Specifically, the party has demanded the resignation of Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Prakash Jwala, Health Minister Mohan Bahadur Basnet, and Tourism Minister Sudan Kirati since the beginning of the parliamentary session.
