Successful conclusion of NA Election across seven provinces, results awaited this evening

KATHMANDU: The National Assembly (NA) election, spanning all seven provinces, reached its conclusion on Thursday.

The voting, which commenced at 9 AM for the election of 19 seats vacant since March 4, concluded at 3 PM, as confirmed Shaligram Sharma Paudel, the spokesperson at the Election Commission.

“A total of 99.32 percent votes have been casted,” said Paudel.

A total of 51 candidates from eight political parties contested in the election, with voters comprising members of provincial assemblies, mayors, deputy mayors, chairpersons, and vice-chairpersons of local levels.

However, in the Koshi Province, three notable figures, including the Mayor of Dharan sub-metropolitan city, Chairperson of Gramthan Rural Municipality Jay Prakash Gachhadhar, and suspended Jay Narayan Shah of Jhapa Rural Municipality, abstained from voting. Madhesh Province witnessed one voter omission, while Bagmati Province reported five such instances.

In Gandaki, Mayor Dev Kumar Nepali of Dhorpatan Municipality did not participate, and two voters abstained in Lumbini Province. Notably, Karnali Province witnessed full voter participation. Sudur Paschim Province recorded 226 votes cast.

The vote counting process is set to commence across all provinces, with the eagerly anticipated results expected to be published later this evening.
