House of Representatives Secretary Suresh Adhikari resigns

KATHMANDU: President Ram Chandra Paudel has accepted the resignation of Suresh Adhikari, Secretary of the House of Representatives, effective Sunday. Adhikari tendered his resignation while Speaker Devraj Ghimire was on an official visit to Cambodia.

The sudden resignation has raised questions, as the reasons behind the decision remain unclear. However, Adhikari has cited health concerns as the primary cause for stepping down.

Adhikari was appointed Secretary of the House of Representatives on Jestha 18, under Clause (1) of Article 106 of the Constitution, filling the vacancy left after Padma Prasad Pandey was promoted to Secretary General of the Federal Parliament.

Adhikari’s appointment came from the Nepali Congress quota during a period of political division, while Secretary General Pandey’s promotion had the backing of the UML.

The resignation marks another shift in the administrative leadership of the House, leaving speculation about its potential impact on parliamentary operations.
