Kaski District Court remands RSP Chair Lamichhane to another seven days in custody

The Kaski District Court has granted permission to keep Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane in custody for another seven days.

Lamichhane was arrested in connection with an investigation into cooperative fraud and organized crime, and the court has approved the request to detain him for further investigation.

He was presented before the Kaski District Court on Thursday, where the hearing was conducted by Judge Chandra Kanta Paudel.

RSP leaders plan widespread protests as Cooperative fraud victims demand justice

Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) leaders are currently holding a meeting in Kaski after an extension of Rabi Lamichhane’s detention in the cooperative fraud case.

Leaders have stated that they are preparing to organize protests on Friday in Kathmandu’s Maitighar and several locations in Pokhara.

According to RSP lawmaker Hari Dhakal, discussions are underway to make Friday’s protests more widespread. He said, “We will ensure justice for the cooperative victims and also secure justice for our party chair.”

Arrest warrant issued against Rabi from Rupandehi

An investigation has been launched against Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane in connection with the Supreme Cooperative fraud case in Rupandehi.

On Thursday, the Rupandehi District Court granted permission to the District Police Office to arrest the former Home Minister, according to court information officer Ananta Raj Marasini.

The parliamentary probe committee on cooperatives fraud found that funds from Supreme Cooperative had been misappropriated by Lamichhane’s Gorkha Media Pvt. Ltd. and used for Galaxy Television.

SC puts hearing on petition against UML land donation on hold

The petition filed in the Supreme Court against the donation of land given by the owner of Bhatbhateni Super Store, Min Bahadur Gurung, to build the party office of the CPN-UML has been placed on hold by the Supreme Court.

The case was presented to the single bench of Judge Nahakul Subedi, who declined to review it, citing his prior involvement in the Lalita Niwas case involving Gurung.

Advocate Gyan Bahadur Basnet had filed the petition, arguing that the matter of UML taking land donations from Gurung is against the law, and sought a court order to halt both.

UML critiques Federal Parliamentarians’ involvement in demonstration against cooperative fraud investigation

The ruling party, CPN-UML, has stated that the demonstration organized by the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) as illegal, coinciding with the ongoing implementation of the Special Parliamentary Inquiry Committee’s report regarding the misuse of cooperative savings funds.

Party General Secretary Shankar Pokharel issued a statement on Thursday, emphasizing the collective responsibility to support the investigation, prosecution, and judicial processes.

He asserted that, based on the findings of the Parliamentary Special Committee, it is essential for everyone to aid in the ongoing proceedings against the accused.

Police fire tear gas at RSP supporters in Pokhara

Tensions escalated in Pokhara as the Kaski District Court granted a seven-day extension for the detention of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chairman Rabi Lamichhane on Thursday.

In response, RSP workers, who have been protesting since Lamichhane’s arrest, clashed with police, leading to the deployment of tear gas.

As Lamichhane was brought to court, activists gathered outside the restricted area to express their dissent.

SAFF Women’s Championship: Nepal into semi-finals

Nepal has entered the semi-finals of SAFF Women’s Championship 2024.

Nepal defeated Sri Lanka 6-0 in the last group match today, to book a place in the last four.

As winner of Group B, Nepal will now play Group A runner-up India in the semi-finals to be held on Sunday.

In match held at local Dasharath Stadium in Tripureshwar this evening. Sabita Ranamagar gave Nepal the lead by scoring in the 8th minute of the game while Sabitra Bhandari (Samba) made it 2-0 in the 11th minute.

Similarly, in the 13th minute of the game, Rekha Paudel scored to make it 3-0 and in the 36th minute to give the hosts a 4-0 lead in the first half.
