SC puts hearing on petition against UML land donation on hold

KATHMANDU: The petition filed in the Supreme Court against the donation of land given by the owner of Bhatbhateni Super Store, Min Bahadur Gurung, to build the party office of the CPN-UML has been placed on hold by the Supreme Court.

The case was presented to the single bench of Judge Nahakul Subedi, who declined to review it, citing his prior involvement in the Lalita Niwas case involving Gurung.

Advocate Gyan Bahadur Basnet had filed the petition, arguing that the matter of UML taking land donations from Gurung is against the law, and sought a court order to halt both.

Previously, the Supreme Court administration had rejected the petition. However, on Tuesday, the bench of Justice Til Prasad Shrestha reversed that decision, ordering the case to be registered.

Min Bahadur Gurung and his wife, Savitri Gurung, had donated 10 ropani and 14 aana of land in Maitrinagar, Kirtipur, for the construction of the UML headquarters.

Prime Minister and UML Chair KP Sharma Oli had already laid the foundation stone for the office building on October 10.
