‘Cleared of fraud, yet targeted,’ says RSP Chair Rabi Lamichhane

KATHMANDU: Rabi Lamichhane, chair of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, claimed on Tuesday that he has been cleared of any involvement in a cooperative fraud case.

Speaking during a Facebook Live session, Lamichhane revealed that a parliamentary investigation committee, led by UML lawmaker Surya Bahadur Thapa, has acquitted him of the charges.

Lamichhane addressed allegations that illegal funds were funneled into the Gorkha Media Network from various cooperatives.

He admitted that, as a member of the network at the time, he bears responsibility for the inflow of money, but denied any wrongdoing in relation to cooperative fraud.

“The Parliamentary Committee has given me a clean chit,” Lamichhane said during the Facebook Live session. “I am not involved in cooperative fraud. However, I cannot evade responsibility for the money that entered Gorkha Media while I was there.”

Despite the committee’s findings, Lamichhane expressed concerns that the government is still seeking ways to implicate him.

“The government is trying to find a way to prosecute me,” he claimed during his live broadcast.
