KATHMANDU: As major festivals like Dashain and Tihar draw near, the number of people falling ill in Kathmandu Valley is on the rise, with dengue cases increasing significantly.
Despite the colder season not yet beginning and the monsoon lingering, dengue cases have surged since the start of Ashwin.
The Sukraraj Tropical & Infectious Disease Hospital has seen a growing number of dengue patients in its emergency room.
According to Bhaleshwar Yadav, head of the hospital’s emergency department, there has been a noticeable spike in dengue infections over the last 10 days.
“11 people were admitted to the emergency room on the 1st of Ashwin, 3 people on the 2nd, 23 people on the 3rd, 28 people on the 4th, 19 people on the 5th and 17 people on the 6th”, he reported, emphasizing that all of them were suffering from dengue.
Since the outbreak began in Nepal in last Poush, a total of 11,545 people have been infected with dengue. While the government has not provided exact figures, there are reports of fatalities in the Kathmandu Valley due to the virus.
