KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Oli has urged Nepali youth living abroad to return home and help create job opportunities for development.
Currently in New York to lead the Nepali delegation at the 79th United Nations General Assembly, Prime Minister Oli addressed the World Leaders Forum at Columbia University, emphasizing the importance of youth engagement in national development.
He expressed that the aspiration for a “Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali” hinges on alleviating poverty and ensuring everyone’s right to live with dignity.
During his keynote speech on “Journey of Nepal’s Democracy and Economic Development,” he acknowledged the growing number of youths who have returned home, despite the significant numbers that still emigrate for opportunities abroad.
PM Oli highlighted government initiatives aimed at fostering job creation, such as small-scale industries and startups, asserting that the transformation of the country relies heavily on its youth.
He called for unity among the youth to contribute to nation-building efforts.
“The economic situation of Nepal is not as weak as it may seem. On the contrary, I see immense potential for prosperity that we can achieve quickly through hard work,” said Prime Minister Oli.
He noted that Nepal is positioned advantageously between economic powerhouses India and China, paving the way for a multifaceted economy.
In his address, he also affirmed his commitment to good governance and transparency, leading a coalition government formed by two major parties that played a crucial role in Nepal’s democratic movement.
“Our sole interest is to make Nepalis prosperous and happy. We are fully dedicated to this journey of prosperity,” he stated.
