KATHMANDU: The four-day-long Nil Barahi Naach in Bode is set to conclude on Saturday.

This traditional festival begins annually on the night following Gai Jatra.

During the festival, a series of ritual dances featuring characters such as Bhairav, Nilbarahi, Kumari, Singh, Dwarpal, and Chhetrapal are performed over five days and four nights.

Nil Barahi Naach is regarded as one of the most significant festivals in Bode, second only to Bisket Jatra (the tongue-piercing festival), and is celebrated with great enthusiasm.

The dance procession starts at the main entrance of Bode and winds its way through various temples in the locality. Throughout the performance, dancers maintain a vow of silence and abstain from eating.

Local residents offer prayers to the dancers, who are believed to be impersonating deities during the festival.

The Nil Barahi Naach holds deep cultural significance and continues to be a cherished tradition in the Bode community.
