PM Oli to attend KAHS Convocation in Jumla on September 8

KARNALI: In a remarkable milestone for Jumla, a remote mountainous district in Karnali Province, the Karnali Academy of Health Sciences (KAHS) is set to hold its first-ever convocation on September 8.

The event will see the conferral of degrees to specialist doctors, nurses, and public health graduates, marking a significant achievement in the region’s progress.

Despite its challenging geography, KAHS has been offering advanced courses in medical science, attracting students not only from remote districts of Karnali but also from more accessible areas.

This accomplishment illustrates that geographic remoteness is not a barrier to development, as KAHS is successfully training and supplying medical professionals, including specialist doctors and public health experts, to meet the country’s needs.

The convocation ceremony, scheduled for September 8, will be graced by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who is also the Chancellor of KAHS, and Health and Population Minister Pradip Paudel, the Pro-Chancellor of the academy, among other dignitaries.

KAHS Vice-Chancellor Dr. Mangal Rawal confirmed the attendance of these distinguished guests.

This marks the first convocation ceremony in KAHS’s 13-year history.

Vice-Chancellor Rawal expressed excitement about the historic event, which will see degrees awarded to 56 students from the faculties of public health, nursing, and medical science.

The graduating class includes 38 students in Bachelor of Public Health (BPH) from the first and second batches, 13 students in Bachelor of Medical Sciences (BMS) from two batches, and several students completing their MD in various specializations, including General Practice, Anesthesia, and Pediatrics.

In addition to the convocation, Prime Minister Oli will inaugurate the newly constructed modern Academic Building and an Ophthalmology Centre, which will be operated in collaboration with Tilganga Eye Hospital.

A program to hand over Emergency Medical Response (EMR) equipment provided by the World Health Organization (WHO) will also be part of the ceremony.

Preparations are underway for the convocation, following the approval from the Chancellor’s office, and the event is expected to be a historic moment for the Karnali region.
