Autopsies of bus accident victims to be conducted in Chitwan

TANAHU: The autopsies of the victims from the fatal bus accident that occurred on Friday will be carried out in Chitwan.

The tragic incident happened when a passenger bus carrying tourists from India plunged into the Marsyangdi River in Ainpahara, Ambukhaireni Rural Municipality-2, Tanahun, along the Prithviraj Highway.

The accident claimed the lives of 27 people. The bus, bearing an Indian registration number (UP 53 FT 7623), was en route from Pokhara to Kathmandu when it veered off the road and fell into the river.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Deepak Rai, the bodies of 26 victims were transported from Ambukhaireni Hospital to Chitwan for autopsy.

In the aftermath of the accident, 16 injured passengers were airlifted to Kathmandu for further medical treatment.

They are currently receiving care at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj, Kathmandu.

All the deceased and injured passengers are from the Jalgaon district in Maharashtra, India, as confirmed by the police.
