KATHMANDU: The Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) which was shut in the aftermath of a Saurya Air plane crash has been resumed two hours after the incident.
TIA General Manager Jagannath Niraula said that domestic and international flights have been resumed at the airport now.
The Saurya Air’s plane that was to fly to Pokhara had met an accident at 11:11 am when taking off. Landing and takeoff of aircraft on both domestic and international sectors at TIA were suspended following the accident.
The TIA Office stated that the aircraft with 19 people on board, including the crew members, skidded off the runway and fell into a ditch.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has confirmed that 18 people on board the aircraft have been killed in the accident.
The flight captain Manish Ratna Shakya who was rescued is currently receiving treatment at KMC Hospital at Sinamangal.
