Investigation’s underway in Accham-Chhaugoth incident: Home Minister Lamichhane

KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane has informed that one individual has been arrested in connection with the Achham incident related to Chhaupadi and is currently under investigation with an extended remand.

During today’s special session of the National Assembly, lawmakers queried about the incident at the Chhaugoth in Achham.

Minister Lamichhane responded that based on statements from the victim and the accused, information has emerged indicating the involvement of only one person in the incident.

On the morning of June 18, a 16-year-old girl was found unconscious, allegedly raped, near a Chhaugoth close to Panchadewal Binayak Municipality-2 in Achham.

Home Minister Lamichhane shared that a team from the District Police Office promptly rescued her and transferred her to Mangalsen District Hospital in Achham for further treatment, initiating the investigation process.

He highlighted that the ministry has directed local administrations to strictly implement a zero-tolerance policy against any violence or crimes targeting women and children.

He assured that the Home Ministry and its administration are committed to safeguarding the victim’s rights and ensuring justice.

Regarding this incident, the ministry has been monitoring the actions taken by local administrations through daily reports and regular supervision, the Home Minister added.
